1 Bone Crochet Hook, Size 2 or 3.

Material---3 Ply Baby Yarn or Pompadour.

3 one ounce balls white, 1 one ounce ball pink or blue, for Sacque, Cap and Booties.

SACQUE

Row l--Starting at bottom of Yoke, with white, ch 53 (to measure 8 inches, loosely), work 1 s c in 2nd ch from hook, s c to end of ch (52 s c). Ch 1, turn.

Row 2--Work 1 sc in each sc of previous Row, ch 1, turn,

Repeat Row 2, until you have 22 rows from beginning.

Row 23--Work 16 sc for shoulder, ch 1, turn, work on these 16 sts for 11 more rows. Ch 2, turn, now work 18 s c across Row. Now s c in each st, continue to inc 2 s c on every other Row until you have 32 sts.

On next Row, at neck edge, work buttonhole as follows:

Ch l, turn, work 1 s c, ch 2, skip 2 s c, s c to end of Row.

On next Row, work 2 s c over 2 ch.

Work 1 more Row.

Now dec 2 sc at end of every Row, at front edge, until you have 28 sts, break thread. Attach yarn at neck edge, work to correspond to other shoulder, until there are 28 sts. Work even until piece measures same as other side. Continue with white yarn and work 1 Row of s c around entire yoke and neck, work 3 sc in corners. With pink or blue, work 1 Row in same manner, break thread.

Pattern-

Row 1---Continue with white, in 3rd s c of left front corner of yoke, * work 2 d c in same stitch, ch 3, s c in same stitch, skip 2 s c, 2 d c in next stitch, ch 3, s c in same st, repeat from *across front of yoke for 10 shells. Ch 9, for underarm, work 2 d c in first s c of back, follow pattern across back for 19 shells, ch 9 for underarm and continue across front (10 shells), ch 3, turn.

Row 2--* Work 2 d c over ch 3 of previous Row, ch 3, s c in same place, repeat from *across front, work 2 d c in 2nd ch of underarm, ch 3, s c in same st, skip 2 ch, work 2 more shells over ch.

Continue pattern across back, work 2nd underarm and front to correspond. Work remainder of sacque, same as Row 2, for 16 more rows, break thread.

Fasten blue yarn and *work 1 Row blue, 1 Row white, repeat from *once.

Fasten blue yarn in left front corner at bottom of yoke and work one Row of shells on front, across bottom and other front, fasten with sl st in s c of yoke.

Sleeve—

Fasten white yarn in middle ch of underarm, ch 3, skip 2 ch, 2 d c in next ch, ch 3, s c in same st. Work shell in first sc of yoke, skip 3 s c, work 8 more shells skipping 3 sc between shells. * Now skip 2 sc between next shell, 3 s c between next shell, repeat from *around armhole, working last shell in 2nd ch at underarm (18 shells),

join with a sl st in ch 3 at beg of Row, ch 3, turn.

Work 15 more rows in shell, work 1 Row in blue, then white, repeat blue and white once more, ch 1, turn.

Cuff--* Work1 s c in ch 3, 1 s c in next d c, repeat froth *around Row. Work 5 more rows of s c. With blue, work 1 more Row of shells, skipping 2 s c between shells.

CAP

With white yarn, ch 3, join, work 7 s c in ring, then work 2 s c in each st, until there are 24 sts around. Inc in every 5th st, until there are 45 sts around.

Now inc in every 10th st until there are 64 sts around, sl st in next st. Fasten blue yam on opposite edge of circle, work 1 Row of s c around. 72 s c. Fasten with sl st, break yarn.

Shell st--Fasten white yarn, ch 3, 1 d c in same st, ch 3, s c in same st, *skip 1 sc, 2 dc in next st, ch 3, sc in same st. Repeat from * round, join with sl st, in ch 3 at beg of Row, ch 3, turn.

Rows 2, 3 and 4-- *Work 2 d c over ch 3, ch 3, s c in same place, repeat from *around join with a sl st, ch 3, turn. On next Row, follow pattern to within 7shells at beg of Row, turn, do not ch 3.

Follow pattern on short rows, for 3 more rows. Work 4 more rows alternating blue and white; ch 1, turn.

Band--Work *1 s c over ch 3, 2 s c in next 2 d c, 1 sc over ch 3, 1 sc in next d c, repeat from 4*across front.

Now s c in each d c along sides and s c across back of patterns same as front, ch 1, work 6 rows even on band, skipping 1 st at each end of rows.

Work 1 more Row of s c around back of cap in each st. With blue, work l Row of shells across front, skipping 2 s c between shells.

BOOTIES

Starting at instep, ch 13 sts, work 1 s c in 2nd st from hook and work 1 s c in each st to end of chain. Ch 1, turn, work 1 s c in each st for 12 more rows.

Ch 28 sts and sl st to other corner. S c in each st around instep and each st of ch, for 5 rows.

Work 5 more rows decreasing 3 sts to each round, do not have decreases come over those of previous Row.

Break thread and sew seam at sole. Join yarn at center back and work 2 rows of s c around top of bootie, decreasing 1 st in each Row, skip these sts equal distances apart. Work beading as follows: Ch 4, skip 1 st and work 1 d c in next st, *ch 1, skip 1 st, d c in next st, repeat from * round Row, 20 d c, including ch 3 at beg of Row, join, ch 1. Work 1 s c in each st. Shell Pattern.

Row 1--Ch 3, *skip 3 s c, 2 d c in next st, ch 3, 1 s c in same st, repeat from * around Row, join with a sl st (10 shell), ch 3, turn.

Row 2--* Work 2 d c over ch 3, ch 3, s c in same place, repeat from *around Row, join with a sl st, ch 3, turn.

Work 1 more Row with white. Then alternate blue and white for 5 more rows.

BACK--

Yoke... Starting at lower edge of Yoke, make a chain 14 inches long.

1st Row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across until Row measures 10 ( 11, 12) inches. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 1, turn.

2nd Row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

3rd Row: Sl st across first 3 sts, and make sc in each sc across to within last 3 sc (3 sc decreased at both ends). Ch 1, turn.

Repeat 2nd Row until piece measures from first Row of armhole shaping 3½ (3 ½, 4) inches. Break off.

LEFT FRONT-

Yoke, . . Make a chain 10 inches long.

1st Row: Work as for Back Yoke until Row measures 5 ½ (6, 6½) inches. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 1, turn.

2nd Row: Sc in each sc across. Ch l, turn.

To Shape Armhole: S1 st across 3 sts (3 sts decreased), sc in each se across. Ch 1, turn. Work in rows of sc until piece measures 2 ¾ (2 ¾ -3) inches, ending at neck edge.

To Shape Neck: Sl st across first 10 sc, ch 1 and make sc in each se across. Ch 1, turn. Work over the last set of sts until piece measures 3 ½ (3 ½, 4) inches from first Row of armhole shaping. Break off.

RIGHT FRONT . . . Work exactly as for Left Front, reversing shapings.

Sew shoulder and side seams. Work a Row of sc across each front edge, keeping work fiat and making five ch-5 button loops on Right Front evenly spaced.

BODICE . . . Attach yarn to lower edge of Left Front.

1st Row: Ch 4, dc in same place as yarn was attached, * in next sc make dc, ch 1 and dc. Repeat from * across entire lower edge to Right Front edge. Ch 3, turn.

2nd Row: 3 dc in each ch-1 sp across, dc in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn.

3rd Row: * In center dc of next dc-group, make dc, ch 1 and dc. Repeat from * across, ending with dc in top of turning chain, Ch 3, turn.

Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows alternately until Bodice measures 6 ½ (7, 7) inches, ending with the 2nd Row. Break off.

SLEEVES . . .

Make a chain 8 (8, 9) inches long.

1st Row: Dc in 5th ch from hook, * skip 1 ch, in next ch make dc, ch 1 and dc. Repeat from * across until Row measures 7 (7, 8) inches, ending with skip 1 ch, dc in last ch. Ch 3, turn. Now repeat 2nd and 3rd rows of Bodice until piece measures 6 (6 ½, 6 ½) inches, ending with the 3rd Row, Break off.

Sew up sleeve seam to within ½ inch at top. Sew in Sleeves. Attach yarn to lower edge of Sleeve and work rounds of sc, holding in to fit, until Sleeve measures 7 (7 ½, 7 ½) inches.

COLLAR . . .

Make a chain slightly longer than neck edge and work as for Sleeve until 7 rows are made. Break off. Attach yarn to starting chain and work around 3 outside edges to corresponding position at opposite side, making groups of  3 dc in each sp around and keeping work flat.

Sew Collar to neck edge. Sew on buttons to correspond with button-loops.

CAP

BACK . . . Ch 34 to measure 4½ inches.

1st Row: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 3. turn.

2nd Row: Skip first dc, dc in each dc across and in turning chain. Ch 3, turn.

Repeat 2nd Row until piece measures 4 inches deep, then work a rnd of sc around all edges. Break off.

FRONT AND SIDE PIECE . . . Make a chain 12 ½ inches long. Work as for Sleeve until piece measures 4 inches in all, ending with a dc-group Row. Break off.

Sew this piece to three sides of Back. Attach yarn to lower edge of Cap and work 7 rows of sc across lower edge, holding edge in to fit. Then work a Row of sc closely along entire front edge. Ch 4, turn.

Next Row: In first sc make dc, ch l and dc; * ch 1, skip 2 sc, in next sc make (dc, ch 1) twice and dc. Repeat from * across. Ch l, turn.

Following Row: Sc in each st across. Ch 4, turn.

Next Row: 3 d tr in each sc across. Break off.

Sew the narrow edge of white lace (gathered slightly) across front edge. Lace a ribbon through open shell Row (3 dc-Row with ch-1 between). Make a bow for each side. Sew ribbon for ties at each side.

Miss Muffet ( pink)

½ yard pink nylon ruching, 1 inch wide, for Cap... 6 yards of pink satin ribbon, l/4  inch wide . . . ¾  yard of pink satin ribbon, ½ inch wide.

GAUGE: 3 shells and 3 sc make 2 inches;

6 dc make 1 inch. 3 shell rows and 2 sc rows make 1 inch;

4 dc rows make 1 inch.

BLOCKING MEASUREMENTS:

Chest--20 inches; Length from shoulder to lower edge 9 ½ inches; Length of side seam 6 inches; Length of sleeve seam-6 inches.

SACQUE

BACK . . . Starting at lower edge, ch 66 loosely.

1st Row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (65 sc). Ch 4, turn.

2nd Row: DC in first sc, * ch 1, skip next sc. in next sc make (dc, ch 1) 3 times (shell made); skip next sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * across, in last sc make dc, ch 1 and dc. Ch 1, turn.

3rd Row: SC in each dc and in each sc across, ending with sc in top of turning chain (65 sc). Ch 4, turn.

The last 2 rows constitute pattern. Work in pattern until piece measures 6 inches in all, ending with an SC Row. Turn.

To Shape Armholes:

Sl st in next 6 sc, ch 4, dc in same place as last sl st, work in pattern across to within last 5 sc, ch 4, dc at base of ch-4. Ch 1, turn.

Continue to work in pattern until piece measures 1 inch from first Row of armhole shaping, ending with an sc Row. Ch 3, turn.

Next Row: Skip first sc, dc in each sc across. Ch 3, turn.

Following Row: Skip first dc, dc in each dc across, dc in turning chain. Ch 3, turn. Repeat last Row until piece measures 3 ½ inches from first Row of armhole shaping. Break off.

RIGHT FRONT . . . Starting at lower edge, ch 34 loosely. Work as for Back until piece measures 6 inches in all, ending with an se Row.

To Shape Armhole:

Sl st in next 6 sts. ch 4, dc in same place as last sc was made. Work in pattern across. Continue to work in pattern until piece measures 1 inch from armhole shaping. Now work in dc rows as for Back until piece measures 2 ¾  inches from first Row of armhole shaping, ending at front edge.

To Shape Neck:

1st Row; Sl st in first 8 dc, ch 3, skip next dc, dc in each dc across. Ch 3, turn.

2nd Row: Skip first dc, dc in each dc across. Ch 3, turn.

3rd Row: Dec l dc, dc in each dc across--to dec 1 dc, work off  2 dc as 1 dc. Break off.

LEFT FRONT . . . Work as for Right Front, reversing shapings. Sew shoulder seams.

SLEEVES . . . Starting at lower edge, ch 46.

1st Row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (45 sc). Work in pattern as for Back until piece measures 6 ¾inches. Break off.

Sew side and shoulder seams. Sew sleeve seams to within ¾ inch at top. Sew in sleeves. With right side facing, work a Row of sc around fronts and Lower edge, making 3 sc in corners. Break off.

COLLAR... Starting at neck edge with White, make a chain 12 inches long.

1st Row: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across until piece reaches around neck edge (having a number of dc divisible by 4 plus 3). Cut off remaining chain. Ch 3, turn.

2nd Row: Dc in each dc across. Ch 3, turn.

3rd Row: Dc in first dc (an inc), dc in each dc across 2 dc in turning chain (another inc). Ch 3, turn.

Work 3 more pattern rows as for Sacque, ending with a shell Row. Break off. With right side facing, sc closely across each narrow edge. Sew Collar in place.

Cut two 8 ¾ inch lengths of  ¼ -inch ribbon and lace through front edges of Sacque. Cut two 12-inch lengths of ¼-inch ribbon and sew in place at neck for ties. Cut two 15-inch lengths of ¼ -inch ribbon and lace through sleeves, 1 inch up from cuff edges.

CAP

Starting at center of back, ch 4.

1st rnd: 9 dc in 4th ch from hook. Join with sl st to top of starting chain.

2nd md: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, 2 dc in each dc around. Join.

3rd rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, * dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc (1 dc increased). Repeat from * around. Join. Dc in each dc around, increasing 10 dc evenly on each rnd until piece measures 5 inches in diameter. Join and turn at end of last rnd.

Now work in rows as follows: Sc in same place as sl st and in each dc across to within 3 inches from beginning, having a number of sc's divisible by 4 plus 1. Ch 4, turn.

Work in shell pattern as for Sacque until piece measures 5 ¾ inches from center of back, ending with a shell Row. Break off. With right side facing, attach yarn to lower back edge and sc closely across, drawing it in to measure 8½ inches. Ch l, turn.

2nd and 3rd rows: Sc in each SC across. Ch 1, turn. Break off at and of 3rd Row.

Sew ruching to front of Cap, ¾ inch in from edge. Cut 2 pieces of ½-inch ribbon, each 13 ½ inches long, and sew in place for ties. Cut 2 pieces of ¼-inch ribbon, each 18 inches long, and make 2 rosettes. Sew in place at lower front edges of Cap.

BOOTEES

SOLE . . . Starting at center, ch 20.

1st rnd: 3 dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next 2 ch, half dc in next ch, sc in next 2 ch, half dc in next ch, dc in next 3 ch, tr in next 6 ch, 9 tr in last ch; working along opposite side of starting chain, make tr in next 6 ch, dc in next 3 ch, half dc in next ch, sc in next 2 ch, half dc in next ch, dc in next 2 ch, 4 dc in same ch where first 3 dc were made. Join.

2nd and 3rd rnds: Ch 3, dc in each st around, increasing as necessary across rounded ends to keep work flat. Join. Break off at end of 3rd rnd.

UPPER--Instep . . . Starting at bottom, ch 9.

1st Row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.

2nd to 8th rows incl: Sc in each se across. Ch 1, turn. At end of 8th Row, ch 32 for ankle, sl st at opposite end of last Row.

Now work in rnds as follows:

1st rnd: Se closely around Instep, making 3 sc in each corner, sc in each ch of ankle. Join. Ch 3, turn.

2nd rnd: Dc in each sc around, making 3 dc in center sc at each corner. Join.

3rd, 4th and 5th rnds: Dc in each dc around. Join. Ch 3, turn. Break off at end of 5th rnd.

Pin Sole in place. Working through both thicknesses, attach yarn to back and se closely around. Join and break off.

BEADING AND CUFF . . .

1st rnd: Attach yarn to center back of Bootee, ch 4, * skip 1 st, dc in next st, ch 1.Repeat from * around having 20 sps. Join to 3rd ch of ch-4.

2nd rnd: Sc in each dc and in each ch around (40 sc).

3rd rnd: Ch 4, in same place as sl st make dc, ch 1 and dc; ch 1, * skip 1 sc, sc in next sc, ch 1, skip next sc, in next sc make (dc, ch 1) 3 times. Repeat from * around. Join.

4th rnd: Ch 1, sc in each dc and in each sc around. Join.

Repeat 3rd and 4th rnds alternately until cuff measures 1 ½ inches, ending with 3rd rnd. Break off.

Cut 2 pieces of ¼  inch ribbon, each 16 inches long, and lace through beading.

MITTENS

BACK OF HAND . . . Starting at center, ch 19.

1st Row: DC in 4th ch from hook. dc in each ch across. 6 dc in last ch; working along opposite side of starting chain, make dc in each ch across. Ch 3, turn.

2nd, 3rd and 4th rows: Skip first dc, dc in each dc across, increasing 6 dc evenly across rounded end. Ch 3, turn. Break off at end of 4th Row.

PALM... Work exactly as for Back.

Holding both pieces together, attach yarn to bottom edge and, working through both thicknesses, sc closely across rounded end.

BEADING . . . Working around cuff, ch 4, (dc around bar of next dc, ch 1) 4 times; dc in starting chain, (ch 1, dc around bar of next dc) 4 times; ch 1, dc in joining rnd. Work Beading across other side of cuff to correspond, ending with ch 1, sl st in 3rd ch of ch-4 (20 sps).

CUFF . . . Work exactly as for Cuff on Bootie.

Cut two 16 inch lengths of ¼ inch Ribbon and lace through beading.
